Tiny houses are having a moment: There are TV shows about families downsizing to micro-living quarters, and underconsumption-core is spreading on social media, with many families embracing minimalist, more sustainable living and opting to own less. To keep up with the growing popularity of tiny homes, Amazon now lists a slew of prefabricated options that are perfect for hosting visiting family members or serving as an additional hangout or office space in the backyard.
The latest Amazon tiny home, though, is big enough for families of six or more. It has six rooms and two bathrooms spread over two stories. The $50,000 price tag might sound steep—but when you consider that home prices have steadily been on the rise across the country since the start of the pandemic, the cost is suddenly not so eye-popping.

This Amazon tiny house has three bedrooms, which could theoretically hold two family members each, two bathrooms, a kitchen, two living or dining areas, and a balcony. With floor-to-ceiling windows on one side, this structure gets tons of natural light and will give you an unobstructed view wherever you place it. Including the balcony, it’s around 1,000 square feet, which licensed real estate Dana Wolfson likens to the standard size of a two-bedroom condo. Unlike a condo, however, this home is foldable and portable, meaning you can move with it whenever and wherever you want.
The median price of an existing home (not a new build) in the U.S. hit a record high of $426,900 in June 2024. To construct a new house of comparable size to this Amazon tiny house, Rocket Mortgage estimates you would be spending anywhere from $100,000-$500,000 (excluding the cost of property). Wolfson, who specializes in the Westchester County, New York market with Houlihan Lawrence, tells Parents that the median price for homes in her area that are 1,000 square feet or less, as of January 2025, is $230,000, with the median price per square foot for homes this size is $384. By comparison, this Amazon tiny house breaks down to just under $50 per square foot.

The spiking housing prices directly contrast the trend we’re seeing in home sizes: Houses are getting smaller despite also getting more expensive. Part of the reason why? A supply-and-demand imbalance. “As of February 12, 2025, there are only 33 single-family homes available in all of Westchester that are under $499,999,” Wolfson explains, stressing how low the current inventory is.
If you have the chance, why not remove yourself from the brutal market of surging prices, low inventory, and high mortgage rates by becoming a citizen of Tiny House Nation? Wolfon’s even seen it happening in her own neighborhood, telling us: “There was this small lot down the block from me on a cliff pretty much. This young architect bought it and put a prefab house on it.”

Another way this tiny home packs in a lot of value is that it comes already furnished, with built-in air conditioning, a fully-equipped kitchen, storage space, and an energy-efficient design. Depending on where you do your shopping, buying enough furniture and appliances for a house can cost several thousands (and add a ton of extra work to your plate), so this is definitely a major draw. All that’ll be left for you to do is hook up electricity and plumbing.
While this tiny home is too new to have reviews, Generic is clearly a shopper-loved brand, with three of its similar styles ranking in the top five of Amazon’s best-selling tiny house kits category. Another pops up in Amazon’s Most Wished-for charts. If you’re getting seriously tempted to swap a maximalist life for a simpler, more minimalist setup, check out six more tiny homes on Amazon below.
